Notes
Notes are plain markdown files in each workspace's .fold/notes/ folder. They are listed by the Notes tool pane — the dock's third tool, the quill, ⌘⇧L — and open as document panes like any other file. They never reach the repository: Fold keeps .fold/ out of git for you (the toggle is in Settings).
The notes pane
The pane is a tree. Folders open and close, and each note is one row: its colour, its title and how old it is. The tag strip at the top starts with All, which shows the total and clears the filter.
Writing
- ⌘⇧N creates a note in the focused workspace. Notes sort into folders inside the panel, carry tags (
#tag in the text becomes a chip; the panel filters by them) and a colour.
- A note saves itself — half a second after you stop typing, and whenever its pane closes or tucks, the workspace changes, or Fold quits. It never shows a dirty mark and never asks.
- The note renders as you type: every line is set — headings sized, lists and callouts drawn, tables laid out, checkboxes clickable — except the one the caret is on, which shows its markdown. ⌘⇧M switches the whole note between live and source.
- The page is a calm, centred column. Long lines wrap, and there are no line numbers. Ticked todos fade and are struck through.
- The toolbar has four groups: Text (headings), bold · italic · strike · highlight · code, List (bullets, numbers) and + Insert (checklist, quote, callout, code block, divider). Each menu shows the key for every tool (see Shortcuts).
- [[wiki-links]] link notes to each other; typing
[[ completes note titles, and renaming a note rewrites the links to it. Linked from at the end of a note lists the notes that link to it.
- A note can be locked against edits from the ⋯ menu in its pane header. A locked note shows a small padlock after its name.
Everywhere notes
A second set of notes belongs to no workspace — a folder you pick in Settings, listed under Everywhere in every workspace's notes panel.
Promoting a note
When a note grows into documentation, promote it: the card's menu moves the file into the repository, at a path you choose, where it becomes an ordinary tracked file.
