#Settings

The gear in the dock (or ⌘,) opens the settings sheet, rising from the gear. A list of sections sits on the left; click one and its settings show on the right, one section at a time — nothing to scroll. When an update is waiting, the sheet opens on Updates.

SectionSetting
ThemeDark · Light, the Glass switch, and the nine presets as small pictures of the window — the one you wear is ringed. The last row opens the Theme sheet.
UpdatesKeep Fold up to date — on by default. A newer signed build downloads in the background, is verified against Fold's signing identity, and installs when you quit or relaunch; the gear wears a mark while one waits, and a line under the switch says where it stands. Off means nothing is asked; brew upgrade --cask fold still works either way.
NotesKeep .fold/ out of git — on by default; Fold writes the exclude for you. The Everywhere row picks the folder for notes that belong to no workspace.
HostsThe other Macs a remote session can run on.
Facts barShow the instruments, and which facts they state: branch, worktree, changes, shelf, sync, Claude usage.
AlertsThe done sound that plays when an agent finishes, and the banner — the macOS notification that comes with it. If macOS has turned Fold's notifications off, the row says so and opens System Settings.

The Updates section shows the running version.

#Themes

A theme is the whole look: the glass, the text, the signal colours, the terminal's sixteen colours, the code colours, how deep and strong the workspace colours are, how round the corners are and how roomy the window is. Pick one and the whole window repaints at once — the terminal too.

  • Nine presets. Fold Classic is the default — the look Fold has always had. It can be worn and copied, never edited. Beside it: Graphite, Midnight, Ember, Forest, Dusk (dark), Paper, Sand (light) and Contrast (high-contrast dark).
  • Dark · Light. Fold keeps a dark theme and a light theme — Fold Classic and Paper until you pick. Picking a theme fills its slot and switches to it.
  • The Glass switch. On, the window is see-through glass. Off, it is flat: no blur, every surface one solid colour. Flat stays flat in full screen and under Reduce Transparency.
  • The workspace colours the glass. In every theme but Fold Classic with the glass on, the glass takes the colour of the workspace you are in — as much colour as the workspace colour has, so a grey or near-white one leaves the glass as the theme made it.
  • Corners and spacing. A theme picks Tight, Standard or Round corners and Compact, Standard or Roomy spacing. A spacing change resizes your terminals once.

The Theme sheet — from the settings sheet's last Theme row, Theme… in the app menu, or "open the theme sheet" in the ⌘⇧P palette — lists the themes on the left, with Dark · Light and the Glass switch at their foot, and edits the theme you pick on the right: any theme but Fold Classic, in six tabs — Colours · Workspaces · Icons & text · Terminal · Code · Shape — every colour by swatch or hex. Edits show at once and are kept only when you press Save. Save as my theme copies a preset into a theme of your own; click its name to rename it.

  • Workspaces. Your own theme may pick any workspace colour exactly, or choose One for all — one colour worn by every workspace (tints.all). Any theme but Fold Classic can also take the folder icon off the band's workspace segments (band.icon), leaving their names.
  • Icons & text. The band, the dock and the instruments can each have their own icon and text colour — at rest, lit and under the pointer. Unset draws as before; set is worn exactly.

Your themes are JSON files in a themes/ folder beside Fold's state, each naming the preset it starts from and only what it changes. Edit one by hand and Fold picks it up live; a broken file keeps its last good version and says which line is wrong. The sheet's Themes folder button shows the folder in Finder.

#Your account

The mark beside the gear in the dock is your GitHub account — the one gh is signed in as, with its photo. Its menu shows the state (signed in, signed out, no gh), and switches accounts. Fold uses it for pushing, and for the authors' pictures on the Git pane's commits.
